In a history making achievement for Marymede Catholic College, seven students across Years 7-10 were recently crowned State Champions at the 2016 Tournament of Minds State Finals Competition held at La Trobe University on Sunday 4 September.

Students were one of 80 teams who competed in the Northern Metro Regional Finals as part of the Secondary 'Maths and Engineering' Division finishing 1st overall and subsequently moving into the prestigious State Finals.

The challenge faced by all teams in the State Finals was completely different to that of the Regional Finals. Teams were given 3 hours preparation time and the challenge to build a device which would mimic the response of a high vertical jump. They were then required to devise a script and present the device in dramtic form to the Judges.

The Verdict:

Judges thought the team has clearly understood and demonstrated all aspects of the challenge to high quality and were very impressed with our students. They were subsequently crowned State Champions, and first in the College's history.
