This semester, the Year 10 Media students at Marymede Catholic College have been learning about narratives and lyrical imagery in music videos, and to wrap up the unit, they participated in a masterclass with Australian video artist, Alex George. Students were also joined by Miss Angie Bedford and the Year 10 and 11 Drama classes.

Alex screened some of the music videos he has directed for Sydney-based bands RUFUS and Wolf Tide, and he discussed the techniques he uses to create visual narratives. Alex also test screened a video he is currently working on for Yuma X and the students were able to give him audience feedback on the edit.

Hearing about Alex’s creative process – from concept and treatment to final video – inspired the students and gave them a unique insight into the media industry.
