Learning Diversity and Inclusion
At Marymede Catholic College, we embrace the principle that every student is created in the image and likeness of God, gifted with unique strengths, experiences and learning needs. Guided by our Catholic mission to nourish, nurture and challenge each learner, we are committed to creating inclusive learning environments where all students are supported to grow and experience the fullness of life.
Learning Diversity at Marymede reflects our belief that belonging and dignity are foundational to learning. Through a whole‑school approach, we celebrate diversity and provide equitable access to learning for all students, including those with disabilities, students who require English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, and students identified as High Ability Learners.
An Inclusive Approach to Learning
Every teacher at Marymede is a teacher of diverse learners. Differentiated teaching practices are embedded across classrooms, enabling students to engage with learning through varied content, processes and ways of demonstrating understanding. Where required, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) support intentional goal‑setting, progress monitoring and partnership with families.
Marymede operates within a tiered model of support that ensures students receive appropriate adjustments to access the curriculum on the same basis as their peers. Classroom teachers work collaboratively with families and specialist staff to plan, implement and review learning adjustments that respond to individual strengths and needs, while maintaining high expectations for all learners.
Learning Diversity Support
Our dedicated Learning Diversity Teams at our South Morang and Doreen Campuses provide targeted support and guidance. This includes
- Learning Support Officers (LSOs): Personnel who work within the classroom to assist students with specific funded needs or learning difficulties.
- Specialist Intervention: Targeted programs for literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skill development.
- NCCD Compliance: Coordination of the National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) to ensure the College meets federal evidence requirements for student adjustments.
Through collaboration, expertise and a shared commitment to inclusion, Marymede strives to ensure every student feels known, valued and supported to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
