Our Commitment to Primary Sport
Sport at Marymede is grounded in teamwork, resilience, skill development and enjoyment. Through our involvement in local, divisional and state-level competitions, we aim to nurture confident, active and well-rounded students who embrace challenge and strive for excellence.
School Sport Victoria Pathways
Students from Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to represent Marymede through School Sport Victoria (SSV). This pathway enables athletes to progress through multiple levels of competition:
Bridge Inn District
Whittlesea Division
Northern Region
State Championships
This structured progression ensures our students can challenge themselves, develop athletic ability and experience competition at increasingly advanced levels.
Bridge Inn South District Sporting Competition
Marymede Catholic College is proud to be an active member of the Bridge Inn South District sporting competition. Our involvement provides students with extensive opportunities to participate, compete and excel across a wide range of sports. The District currently comprises 12 Primary Schools, including Marymede, collaboratively promoting sport, teamwork and healthy competition within our local community.
Major SSV Carnivals
Across the school year, students can participate in three major carnivals:
Swimming – Term 1
Cross Country – Term 2
Athletics – Term 3
Teams are selected in three age categories: 10 Years, 11 Years, and 12/13 Years, allowing students to compete with peers of similar age and developmental level.
Progression to Higher Levels
In Swimming and Athletics, students who place 1st or 2nd in A-grade events progress to the next stage of SSV competition.
Relay teams that win their event also advance.
In Cross Country, the first 12 finishers in each age group qualify for the next round.
This structure celebrates both individual excellence and team success.
Weekly Sporting Competitions (Term 1 and 2)
Students also compete weekly on Friday mornings in the District’s structured interschool sport competition. Weekly sport is open to Year 5 and 6 students.

High Performance Program
Each year during Semester 2, Marymede Catholic College offers a specialised High-Performance Program for selected Primary students in Year 6. Approximately 15–20 boys and girls are invited to participate based on their enthusiasm, effort and potential in physical activity.
The program is designed to strengthen students’ physical literacy, with a focus on age-appropriate strength, conditioning and movement development. Our aim is to build confident, capable movers within a supportive, fun and engaging environment.
Students involved in the program participate in targeted sessions that develop:
Acceleration and running mechanics
Foundational physical strength
Safe jumping and landing techniques
Change of direction skills
Speed and agility
These core movement skills support students across all sports and promote long-term physical wellbeing.
Training sessions are held on Friday mornings from 7.15am to 8.15am and are facilitated by two qualified sport science professionals, ensuring high-quality coaching and expert guidance.
