Meet our new Wellbeing Dog!

We are delighted to share that our school has a new four-legged team member – our wellbeing dog, Kenzie!

Having a dog in the school environment, when introduced with care and clear routines, can make a big difference to how we feel and connect as a community.

For our students, Kenzie will bring more than just smiles and cuddles. Spending time with a calm, friendly dog can help students manage their emotions, express themselves more easily, and feel less self-conscious. It also encourages teamwork, kindness, and positive social skills.

For staff and adults, a wellbeing dog can offer steady support during stressful times, encourage empathy and connection, and even help de-escalate challenging moments so that safety and trust can be restored.

Behind the scenes, our wellbeing team is working closely with the trainers and staff of the Dogs Connect program, who will assist Marymede in carefully monitoring and improving this venture over time.

In the initial rollout phase, Kenzie will be on campus one day per week in the Secondary Wellbeing Space.

If you can envision any barrier for your child interacting with our wellbeing dog, please contact the Wellbeing Team at counselling@marymede.vic.edu.au.

We can’t wait for everyone to meet Kenzie and experience the joy and calm she will bring to our school life!
